Package Bees & Nucs for Sale in Wisconsin
Little Apiary on the Prairie delivers package bees, nucleus colonies, and mated queens to 25 pickup locations across Wisconsin, with delivery scheduled for April 2027. We are a family-owned operation based in Fargo, North Dakota, running since 2018, and Wisconsin is new territory for us in 2027. We do not ship live bees — you meet the truck at a scheduled stop near you.
Our stock is bred for northern climates: Carniolan and Italian genetics selected for winter hardiness, gentleness, and mite resistance. If you keep bees in Wisconsin, you already know what a bad February does to a colony. That’s the problem our genetics are chosen to solve.
Where can I pick up bees in Wisconsin?
We stop in 25 Wisconsin towns:
Western Wisconsin: Hudson · La Crosse · Black River Falls · Eau Claire · Barron · Viroqua · Richland Center
Southern Wisconsin: Madison · Janesville · Dodgeville · Delavan · Kenosha · Milwaukee (South) · Menomonee Falls · West Bend
Northeastern Wisconsin: Fond du Lac · Appleton · Green Bay · Shawano · Marinette
Central & Northern Wisconsin: Stevens Point · Wausau · Tomahawk · Ashland · Superior
Pickup points are highway-accessible parking lots — Fleet Farm, Menards, Walmart, and travel plazas — chosen so you’re not driving half a day for a box of bees. You select your town at checkout.
When do bees get delivered to Wisconsin?
Wisconsin is split across both delivery runs. Southern and I-94 corridor stops — La Crosse, Madison, Milwaukee, Eau Claire, Appleton and neighbors — are on our southern run. Northern stops including Green Bay, Wausau, Superior, and Ashland are on our northern run.
Do nucs and packages arrive together?
No. Nucs and packages are delivered on separate days at every stop. We bring nucs through first, then come back through the same towns with packages about two weeks later. If you order both, expect two pickup days and two confirmed windows.
There’s a reason we run it in that order: we carry replacement nucs on the package run. If your colony has a problem, we can bring you another one instead of making you wait a season. We carry a limited number of spares, so it isn’t a blank check — but it’s why the route works this way.
Are delivery dates guaranteed?
No. Delivery is scheduled for April 2027 and those dates are tentative. We haul live animals across many states. Weather, supplier timing, and colony health all move dates, sometimes on short notice. We will not run a route on schedule if running it on schedule puts the bees at risk.
You’ll receive your exact stop, date, and time window by email as the route firms up, and you remain responsible for pickup on the final scheduled date. Read our delivery date policy.
Why order from a North Dakota apiary instead of a local Wisconsin supplier?
Three reasons, and we’ll be straight about where we’re not the better choice.
We come to your town. Most suppliers make you drive to them. If you’re in Ashland, Marinette, or Tomahawk, the nearest supplier is a serious drive on the one morning of the year when you least want your bees sitting in a hot car. We stop in 25 Wisconsin towns.
Our genetics are selected for northern winters. A lot of spring bees sold in the Upper Midwest are produced in warm climates and trucked north. Ours are selected against northern overwintering — that’s the whole basis of the operation.
We sell Minnesota-overwintered nucs. Colonies that already came through a real northern winter. You cannot buy that from a southern producer at any price.
Where we’re not the better choice: if you’re near Watertown or the La Crosse area, there are well-regarded suppliers close by, and if driving 40 minutes is no trouble, buy local — they’re good operations. Our advantage is strongest in northern and central Wisconsin, where the nearest alternative isn’t 40 minutes away.
